This game has a free market. Prices are based on what people are willing to pay. You can make up the AH game as you want to play it. The rules are the framework of the AH, but the system you put into play is up to you. People use tools like Auctioneer to take advantage of badly priced or unlucky auctions. Turn the tables, and use the tool against them.
Controlling the market isn't very hard for a determined player. With some starter money and some free time you can essentially print your own money. You will need to be smart and at least a little lucky though.
